Brainstorming Inanimate Object Cartoons
I recently wrote up a new assignment for my comics class to do a gag cartoon with an anthropomorphized inanimate object. This is my first time teaching this specific type of gag cartoon, so it was fun to really dig in and think about the mechanics of what makes inanimate object cartoons work. I worked up a two page brainstorming worksheet for my students to fill out, answering all the questions as a way of coming up with ideas. I think it’s a pretty solid exercise, though I’ve yet to actually go through and do it myself. I feel like just using this sheet I could come up with hundreds of cartoon ideas. I’m looking forward to when I can find a time to sit and do it. Hope you guys enjoy it, and let me know if you actually put it into practice and if it works for you.
